A group of local traders working in the Market Square of Kidburn have decided to conduct a survey into the views of local residents on how the Market Square should be developed. The Market Square is surrounded by many shops and cafes.

With the questionnaire we managed to ask 50 people that live in the area. The questionnaire is shown in the appendix 9.1. And the statistics that people responded are shown in the appendix 9.2.

The responses from this sample are summarised and analysed beginning from the next chapter. There is a description about every graph you will see. Also every graph has a table where you can find in the appendix.1.1 Types of food Question 1: What kind of food would you like to eat most often in one of the cafes/restaurants in the Market Square? The people were asked what type of food they prefer to eat at the Market Square.

As shown in Figure 1a: 12 out of 50 people prefer the Sandwiches/Panini's witch it makes the highest percentage of 24%. On the other hand we can see that the Vegetarian range was the less liked kind of food with only 3 votes (6%). People had the opportunity to choose one of the given options or if they preferred something that is not on the list to chose other and specify. This graph shows that the people were satisfied with the options and had no other types of food in mind.

To see the rest of the statistics of this graph I refer you to look in the appendix 9.3, figure 1b page 15.2.1 Times a month Question 2: How many times a month would you use the cafes/restaurants in the Market Square if they served one type of food you have identified in question 1? People were asked how many times a month they would use cafes/restaurants. The graph shows that 23 people (46%) responded that they would use the cafes/restaurants up to 4 times a month.

30% (15 people) responded that they would use the facilities up to 8 times a month. 8 people out of 50 responded that they would use it up to 12 times a month. That means that 16% would use the facilities up to 3 times a week. And the remaining 8% (4 people) they responded that they would use the cafes/restaurants up to 20 times a month. That is 4 times a week.

For more statistic details I refer you to the appendix 9.3, figure 2b page 15. According to the information above and logical way of thinking, I can say without any evidence or references that the people that responded they would use the facilities up to 20 times a month, they have to be working in the area of the Market Square. And I mentioned before; the Market Square is surrounded by shops.3.

1 Spend in restaurantsQuestion 3: How much, on average, would you expect to spend per person each time you used a cafe/restaurant serving the type of food you have identified in question 1? We asked the people how much they would spend per person every time they would visit one of the restaurants or cafes. We see that just 2 people (4%) had responded that they would spend no more than 1. But the numbers go up (9 persons, 18%) by the amount between 2.And as the amount go's up people would spend up to 3, that gives us the percentage of 30% (15 people). Unfortunately the respondents went down by the amount between 3 and 4 pounds to 12% (6 people).

Now as the amount go's up the numbers of the respondents go down. If we look at the last bar it shows that only 2 people (4%) would spend up to9 every time he would visit one of the cafes/restaurants. From the information above I can conclude that most of the people would spend up to3 by every visit to one of the cafes/restaurants. For further statistics I refer you to the appendix 9.4, figure 3b page 16.4.

1 Types of shopsQuestion 4: What time of new shops would you most like to see open in the Market Square? The people were asked what type of shops they prefer to see open. 24% of the responded (12 people) chose for the Book/video/music shop. The second highest rated in the graph is the ''men clothes'' that got 22% of the votes (11 people). Also the ''children's clothes'' was highly rated with 18% (9 people). The haberdashery was the lowest rate with 6% (3 people) of the votes.

For the rest of the statistics I refer you to the appendix 9.4 figure 4b page 16. The conclusion here is that in this area there are not much of book/video/music shops. That could be the reason why people rated that subject the highest. Also that there are not enough men and children shops in that area.

On the other hand there is a great possibility that there are a lot of women clothes shops in the area.5.1 ViewsQuestion 5: There is currently a proposal to use the open area of the Market Square for local events. What are your views on this proposal? People were asked what they think about the proposal to use open area of the Market Square for local events.

The graph tells us that 20 people (40%) strongly agreed with the proposal. And 12 people (24%) agreed with the proposal. The same number of respondents (12 people, 24%) as the people that agreed with the proposal was neutral with the proposal. The disagreements were very poor. 6 people (12%) disagreed with the proposal. For more details I refer you to the appendix 9.

5, figure 5b page 17. From the information above I can conclude that the people that were neutral about the proposal are 'okay' with it. That means that if the proposal is on they would not care and if the proposal is off they would not care too. Actually only 12% of the respondents (6 people) disagree with the proposal. Witch gives us a green light to carry out with the proposal.

6.1 EventsQuestion 6: If a decision was taken to go ahead with holding events in the Market Square, which one of the events listed would you prefer? People were asked what type of event they would like to see if the decision was taken to do so. Children's performers were the most liked with 15 votes what makes 30%. ''Specialist food days'' took the second place with 13 votes witch is 26%. Craft stalls and live music had both the same number of respondents; 8 people voted for each witch makes 16% each.Art Exhibitions and Street Performers were the less liked by the people and got only 3 votes (6%) each.

For further statistic details I refer you to the appendix 9.5, figure 6b, page 17. Conclusion: The people actually like to enjoy en relax on the events. They like to see their children have some activities and at the same time have a good day on the ''special food days'' event. As those two events have the most votes, together they make 28 votes witch is 56%, I would recommend doing both events at one time.7.

1 Cross-table frequencyThis table is a cross-table (Pivot-table) of questions 1 and 3 together. On this table we can see that there are 6 people that prefer Chinese food; 2 of them would spend between7 each; 3 of them would spend between 8 each; and 1 said that he would spend between 9. You can read that on the horizontal line of Chinese food. Now we understand the information that is given on the horizontal line of every food type.

On the grand total of the vertical line of each column you can see how 'many' people spend between (for example) 4 pounds. The answer is again on the vertical grand total which is 15 people would spend that amount of money. This table is very practical if you want to know how many people on average would spend between (for example) 4 on (for example) cakes in one look. We have analysed question 1 and 3 separately earlier, which each of them gives us different information. (Further statistics about question 1 and 3 I refer you to the appendix 9.3, figure 1b page 15 and appendix 9.

4, figure 3b page 16)ConclusionTo summarise and conclude the results of the questionnaire I say according to the graphs and statistics that the people like to eat something for a small amount of money. They like to see their children being active and creative. Also they like to have a relaxing time where they can enjoy different kind of food. There were people that responded that they would use the cafes/restaurants more often then average. That means that these people might work in that area.

There are probably just a few of men and clothes shops. This makes it interesting to open that kind of shops.
