Interwest Healthcare Corp. is a non-profit organization. This organization has not been doing well in the healthcare industry for the last couple of months. Interwest’s CFO found that the employees are not giving full concentration while data entry. Interwest continuously making wrong report and for this reason it deprived of getting federal funds from Government, which is a huge loss for them. The CFO Mr. Sing addressed the problem and managed a meeting with the employees including the CEO in order to fix the problem; but, the result is zero. Moreover, the employees said Mr. Sing is not taking care of patients. The CEO feels pressure do not maintain the commitment he made with the high authority of the company. Finally, in order for properly manage the company; the CEO hired a consultant with respect to get a constant decision that arises daily.
1. What are the potential sources of the problem? Problem management is the process of addressing potential problem and at the same time solving the problem when it is necessary (Rouse, p.1, 2008). The CFO of Interwest’s Sing did address the problem, but he actually does not know how to solve the problem. Another major problem of Interwest is lack of a good relationship between employees from top to lower levels. It seems all employees are hardly meeting with the CEO and CFO when only the problem arises. Moreover, Organizational managers are the responsible for attaining all organizational goals; but, when they abstain from doing their tasks, company’s productivity goes down.
The main product of healthcare institute is service; but, Mr. Sing is never dedicated to providing better service to patients (Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman, p. 38, 2009). As a result, employees get demotivated from the high officials and did careless work on their work. Furthermore, the absence of proper planning with respect to implement accurate information system is another source of the problem. Interwest might have faced out of modern technology in the hospital may cause another reason of data entry problem.
2. What information you want to analyze?
First, I would like to know about the company’s policies and procedures. I want to analyze whether the employees get trained or not, when they entered in the company. I also would like to know the employees are suitable for the data entry job or not; because not everybody can handle the information system related work. I also want to know whether Interwest hired any professional data administrator manager in this regard or not. Moreover, I want to ensure employees are getting proper facilities from Interwest according to their company policies. I need to know the information about services that Interwest is committed to their every patient too. Moreover, I would like to analyze about the decision making ability of the CEO and CFO of Interwest.
The CEO is the head of the position of every company; when he is unable to make a perfect decision in a bad situation may hamper the company in many ways. I also want to analyze whether the competitors are manipulating Interwest’s employees or not in order to make Interwest bad reputation in the healthcare industry.
3. What actions might you recommend to increase the accuracy of the data entry? Interwest can follow the below instructions in order to enhance their data entry accuracy. Interwest needs to hire experienced employees. Interwest needs to hire some information technology specialists who can examine employees speed test on data entry and able to give solution whenever the company face data entry related problems. Interwest needs to introduce fine system in their policy; so that the employees become careful in their work. Interwest needs to ensure that they have all modern technology instruments in the company.
Moreover, they need to give proper training to their employees through high experienced professionals. Interwest should give performance appraisal to their employees based on the employee’s performance; as a result, employees get motivated and will try to give their best. Interwest should introduce a regulatory team to monitor employees work in the company may reduce the inaccuracy of data entry. Interwest should ensure better job atmosphere for employees who do data entry. Interwest should give vacation to their staffs in order to remove their boredom. Interwest’s employees should consider some friendly software like excel, pdf to reduce the work load and at the same time reduce inaccuracy of data entry.
4. How does your view of behavior affect how you might address this consulting assignment? As a consultant of Interwest Healthcare, I would like to prefer Happy-Is-productive model to address this assignment. Happy stuffs are more creative than unhappy stuffs (Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman, p. 35, 2009). The profitability of each organization is fully depending on the employees; because employees are the citizens who represent the company. Interwest’s stuffs are not satisfied on their upper level officials; as a result, they are not caring about their work. As a consultant, I want to give preference my employees first. I think if I can motivate my employees, it leads to exert their effort and increase the productivity of the company. Moreover, if I create a job satisfaction for the stuffs, it seems safety and secure; thus increases accuracy on the work. This behavioral model shows how happiness makes employees provide better service and become energetic.
